Designed with iodine povacrylex for persistence that dries to a water insoluble film creating durable layer of protection, DuraPrep™ Surgical Solution creates a durable protective layer, providing fast acting and persistent surgical skin prep that significantly reduces microorganisms on intact skin prior to surgery. This antiseptic solution features a unique combination of alcohol for rapid kill and fast drying, and iodine povacrylex, which forms a water insoluble film for long lasting protection.
Surgical skin preps need to persist on the skin to remain effective — but not all preps are up to the task. That’s why we formulated DuraPrep™ Surgical Solution to protect the prep from removal during surgery. It contains water-insoluble film, which applied in a single painted coat, dries to form a durable layer of protection on the patient’s skin.1 A study showed that DuraPrep™ Surgical Solution is more resistant to removal by saline-soaked gauze than ChloraPrep™ Skin Prep.
DuraPrep application technique
Snap or press
8635 (6 mL) With sponge parallel to floor, snap lever. Allow all fluid to flow into the sponge.
8630 (26 mL) With sponge parallel to floor, press the cap end of the applicator. Solution will begin to flow into the sponge. Wait for fluid level to reach indicator line of applicator barrel.
Paint
Beginning at the incision line and working your way out toward the periphery, paint a single uniform coat of solution on the skin. Use only light pressure. Do not scrub or go back over areas already prepped. If pooling occurs, immediately blot with the sponge applicator and continue.
Dry
Allow solution to dry thoroughly on skin (three minutes on hairless skin; up to one hour in hair). As it dries, it turns from a shiny to a dull appearance, at which point it is no longer flammable. Do not use a towel to blot dry. Use gauze to wick away any pooling. Once dry, proceed with draping.
Remove, if desired
DuraPrep™ Surgical Solution continues to kill bacteria for at least 48 hours after exposure to blood and saline. When removal is desired, apply Remover Lotion and wipe away lotion and residue with a disposable towel.
